Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need permission to fly?
To fly commercially In the UK you need permission from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). All our pilots are qualified to CAA standards and have many years of experience in their respective fields. We maintain the strictest safety systems and are fully insured for public liability and professional indemnity.
As well as CAA permission we also need the landowner’s permission for take-off and landing.
Whenever commissioning drone services always ask to see the operator’s Permission for Commercial Operations and insurance.
How far can you fly?
A maximum of 500 metres horizontally in any direction from the pilot and a maximum altitude of 400 feet. This is usually more than sufficient for routine operations. Careful project planning and multiple flights allow for large areas to be surveyed surprisingly quickly.
What other restrictions are there?
There are many considerations to consider when planning a project. The type of airspace, the geography of the location, proximity to other people and buildings and even the time of day are just a few of the things that need to be considered. Many projects that seem impossible at first can be delivered given sufficient time and careful planning. Our first commitment is to public safety and that is why we carefully investigate every location prior to any flight. If you have a project and would like to discuss if it is feasible then please get in touch.
Can I be with you during the flights?
Yes, absolutely, we really welcome your involvement. Being onsite during flight operations can often allow us to do adjustments to the mission in real time. These can often save many hours or a repeat visit.
Does weather effect your ability to fly?
Absolutely. We can’t fly in the rain or in very strong winds. For most of our flight operations we prefer winds less than 20 miles per hour/32 kilometres per hour. For surveys and 3d modeling we prefer overcast days. Although we can fly in light rain it is unlikely that we will get good data.
Can you operate from a moving vehicle?
Yes in the past we have operated from moving vehicles and boats. Boats present a particular challenge so please get in touch to discuss what is practical.
